iPad vs Kindle

February 3rd, 2010 by No comments »
When iPad was revealed by Apple since then many have been proclaiming and prophesying death of most famous ebook reader kindle . However a close analysis of these two devices suggest competition from Kindle will not be a cakewalk for iPad and might leave Apple hurt.
On a technical analysis there is no doubt iPad is a better piece of technology than Kindle . Apart from a good battery backup of Kindle ( a week long on a estimate) there is nothing to be compared to iPad . iPad’s display , its wide array of technological achievements and also its storage capacity which is Eight times more than Kindle leaves it long back in this marathon.
Kindle was made specifically for text based application , some static puzzle games and not a good video device . On the other hand iPad is offering all the applications that are supported on iPhone and also some new made custom applications for iPad . Again Kindle loses on this front .
But the Secret weapon of Kindle is its Price and also its durability . Most basic model of Kindle is half as cheap as the basic model of iPad which is Priced at 499$ ( basic model) . Kindle Dx is currently priced at 489 $ and is just 10 $ cheap as iPad but the catch is Kindle Dx provides 3G whereas iPad don’t . Yes sounds unbelievable but is true . To get a 3G on iPad you will have to pay at least 629$.
This is worrying enough for Apple .Also Amazon’s 3G is provided free but there is nothing much you can do with it . But speaking on simple terms fact is Kindle Dx is killed . Although Kindle is offering some new features on Dx but this is already looking like a lost war .

HP Slate

Steve Ballamer along with his hardware expert Ryan Asdourian showed this world a new amazing device running on Windows Seven named “HP Slate” and it left millions of viewers awestruck worldwide . On a first look this device looks very cute with a big touchscreen and its also slim .
It will be out in the markets this year and will face stiff competition from new groundbreaking device by Apple known as iPad .This year is filled with tablet PC Releases from all mega corporations in this field . The challenge however is in the fact that how to convince consumers that these devices are better than net-books or notebooks.

Also the pricing will be a challenge as there are many new entries in this sector current year . iPad is priced aggressively at 499$ for the basic models and leaves others pondering over prices . Also iPad will release earlier than Slate thus will have a early entry advantage along with the hype it created worldwide . Ballamer a took a clever decision of rolling out HP Slate one year after release of windows Seven which has been rated one of the best operating system present today . It would not be wrong in saying that he might be banking on success of PC version of Windows seven .
A 17 minute teaser was released in the official unveiling ceremony which has become a major hit on all video sharing websites specially Youtube.

Although many critics doubt success of Slate as it will be somewhat costly than its counterparts . But it will be way to early to tick Slate off the competition as we are yet to see what features HP is offering and at what price. So I would suggest reaers to wait till the later half of this year if they are thinking to buy a tablet PC.

Why I will not buy iPad

February 3rd, 2010 by No comments »

After the official Release of iPad the excitement and Aura it created seems to be fading . Many critics call iPad jack of all trades and master of none . Firstly there is nothing new iPad is Offering which we haven’t seen till today.
I will write here in points why I don’t want to buy iPad .
  1. No Camera . This is heartbreaking for me . Why will I buy a 499$ device on which I cant do video conferencing?? Also there is No camera on the back to click photographs. So how will I capture those funny moments I spend with my friends ?? Camera today is not a utility but a necessity which is even provided by low end phones . Not including this feature can be a fatal error for apple.
  2. No 3G on basic model . The basic model priced at 499$ has no 3G . So I don’t understand why is iPad a Technological breakthrough when it is not providing these existing features. Also the connectivity options are limits . There is no support to HDMI .
  3. Its Price : This is directly related to the above two points . When they are not providing me with utilities that are very important for me and are present in many low end models I am definitely not going to buy it.
  4. Data costs : Even when you buy 629 $ model for using 3G you have to shell out 15 to 30$ each month . Kindle provides 3G service for free and also there is 15 bucks plan .Firstly I am buying a device which is twice as costly as Kindle and even after that I am shelling out money each month for data that also costlier . Doesn’t sounds intelligent , do it ??
  5. Depressing Aspect Ratio . iPad’s aspect ratio is 4:3 much lower than smart phones present today(16:9) . Devices with such a meager aspect ratio stopped rolling out Long back .
So I am sure I will not buy iPad . What about you ??

E-business : Next Phase In Modernization of Business

Today the need to integrate e-business into broader business model and perspective has increased a lot. The pressure to rise to this challenge demands Strong and robust IT Infrastructure , greater security model for securing virtual Data and highly skilled IT employees. As the business goes online The threats also increased manifolds. Your success does not depends on thinking that your data is safe but it depends on anticipating the move of the opponent. This has been taught by a Chinese master in book “Art of War” and when your business goes online you will at war every second. You will need employees in your company which can help your company sail through this phase of change . You will need Leaders in your company not Bosses . Leaders can motivate normal employees and can keep your work going .Whenever you hire employees look for Leadership qualities not Bossy quality.

Assuming that neither you will have time nor required capital to modernize each and every hardware in your company a very important part will be integrating the legacy systems with your new and modern hardware. This part can be a bit snippy but it has successfully being done by many organizations over the time.

Contact between you and your system will be from various points like web browsers , local host, voice recognition system personal digital assistants etc.

Earlier modernization was only done on front end like updating software , getting new terminals new systems to monitor employees web cams etc. But today focus is more on back-end , New software’s to secure data , more hardware and network security to data centers and also restricting access to data points by Identification.

Earlier websites were only a source of marketing for a company but nowadays web sites are being used for various purposes like selling complete transaction processing and accepting various time of credit cards hiring employees giving details of various kind of products etc.

Web site is first point of contact between potential customers and company so it should have all possible means to give information about the site , products discounts etc. so taking a professional help in making a web site is highly recommended and also it should be updated and managed on day to day basis.

Some ppl don’t like to upgrade the system because they are very contented and happy with present functioning of system and don’t like changing it as new system could be unstable and also it will take time to learn to use it completely.

Another sect in your organization will vouch in for new systems and new opportunity. So it should be judged by thorough discussion weather to adopt new system or not.

You also have to choose weather the power in your organization will be centralized or delegated . New and bigger organization demands a delegated system as business is spread in various countries and decisions are wanted almost instantly . Delays can cause loss of customers which is not appreciated.

A Study On Business and Information Technology

February 2nd, 2010 by No comments »

Now is the time for Technology enabled Business Services and Many service provider are coming forward in this field . They support latest business models and gives you the edge by providing you extra IT advantage.

Everyday we get mails in our account like “Learn to Optimize your Business”, “Mater class on Leadership”,”How to be successful” etc. Even today we get same promotional mails like we used to get a decade back. Is there something wrong ?? Did we still don’t get the concept of Aligning Business and It correctly ??

Answer is “partly yes” and “partly no “.Lets talk about alignment first. Alignment refers to the art of working in harmony, working with each other in a synchronized way. Till the time you don’t learn to understand the concept of alinement yourself you cannot expect it to work. Understand the problem and try to find out a solution . There will be every many stages where Business and IT will contradict each other.

Coordination should come from both ends Like it comes in any relationship . Never bend one too much or it will break. There should only be “Healthy Competition” and no animosity between them. Relationship should be like it is among equals not submissive from one side.

Skill set from both side should be competent enough so that they can understand basic functionality of each other . Technology is not only there to support business but it is for innovating ideas and work. Business should give priority to technology to work and perform in a better way .

IT is considered a unsuccessful investment crunching and reeling in small companies under shortage of Finance . IT guys are thought to be stupid who only talk about network and Infrastructure .But a IT driven Project performs much better than a Business Driven Project .

In order to make a business successful you have to invest correctly in IT and it will pay slowly but steadily . Remember the old saying “Slow and Steady wins the Race”.

It is a pity that even after two decades of using IT we are not able to understand how to integrate and embed it in a best possible way into our business chain. We have to work hard and harder to gain some advantage in this field .

Using IT in a progressive business model and helping clients gain in them is the main challenge .

Choose business model thoroughly and after a good discussion is important because once you are midway through it and you feel this is not the correct model of business for your organization then you are in a big trouble. This will cause you a way too much in monetary terms and also reduce your credibility in the market and organization among clients. This damage is too much to make . So you can take professional help while choosing a business Plan for yourself.
